I like how she emphasises what the reader has learned at the end of each chapter. This ensures that if you missed something, you can always go back to earlier pages in the chapter to re-read it. The fantasy of having a stress proof brain- though the amusement of such possibility makes it very charming i know it's hard for us the all times stressful beings to believe, but I honestly LOVED this book, ironically i read this book during such an unprecedented stressful period of my life, it explains simply why you're Having those feelings, and why you're reacting this way,what can you do in future times..

Understanding how stress works, how your brain functions through stress is such a strange way of putting the picture back in place. I still haven't managed to master the exercises in this book, i hope i can one day, but it's definitely one of those books I'm coming back to every once in a while. I listened to this as an audiobook - while it is helpful to listen to some of the exercises, I have to say that the performance of the reading just didn't appeal to me at all.

The reader had an almost mechanical rhythm and sounded like a computer program reading; it was quite distracting at times. I will be striving to put into p the book is wonderful! I will be striving to put into practice some of the exercises in the book, and it's a definite repeat resource for me. It's jammed full many helpful thoughts and processes to try out and test on myself, all backed up by science.

It does a great job summarizing how the entire process works and can lead to bigger issues. It helped me look at my anxiety in a new light and the way past events shaped my current response to stress.

The chapters were short and to the point a good way to become familiar with concepts and techniques that you can later delve further into with other resources. While I got relatively little out of this book, it might be more helpful to someone else. Context: Somehow, before I realized it, this turned out to be the 3rd book in a row and the 5th this year dealing with the-science-behind-how-your-brain-works-neuroscience. But if so many people can swear by meditation, if it's been practiced for so many thousands of years already, and the fact that we as human beings can meditate as compared to other animals that cannot , then there "should" be something to it I wished the book would have touched a bit more upon the below; - Research literature on active exercise not just yoga or pilates but running and swimming, for example, as a form of meditation, which are just as similarly anchored by rhythmic breathing and clarity of mind?

Disliked: Self-help books obviously work for some, as per the high ratings on Goodreads, but they are definitely not my thing. I had expected this to be more of a "here are the facts, you decide" - but that type of book is not this book. The low rating is by no fault of the author, it is my own very personal rating of the usefulness of the book as per its relevance to myself.

Takeaway: Meditation can alter your brain structure; put differently - meditation can evolve your brain away from a "fight or flight" world so that we can exist more comfortably in our vastly modified 21st century world.
